Fiacre Douglas characterizes the icy, beautiful Brianna Concannon, recently jilted, with subtle nuances and tonal shading mixed with a thick Irish brogue. When Brianna turns her family's home into a cozy bed-and-breakfast after her father's death and her fiancé's unexplained breakup, Douglas depicts her fears surrounding the new business with a narration rich in vocal personality. He portrays Grayson Thane, a famous mystery novelist who is Brianna's first long-term winter guest, with a subtle intimacy that captures their shared sexual tension--shared, that is, until Brianna repeatedly interrupts him when he's writing his new novel. Although Douglas's narration is good, what begins as a mystery, with clues involving lost letters and stock certificates from a nonexistent company, turns into a mediocre love story.
