Dash Bateman is a middle-aged woman in a mid-life crisis. Her marriage of twenty years is in danger of failing, her mother has just died, and her daughter is away at college. She's considering leaving her husband, a college professor, because he won't adopt an abandoned puppy left on their doorstep. Laural Merlington's rich vocal personality and exquisite delivery enhance this bittersweet story. She captures the finely drawn tension depicted during couples counseling and makes the sessions especially believable. Her vocal manipulations show the breakdown in communication as the couple's tones devolve--from calm and reasonable to condescending and patronizing.
