American bombers in WWII suffered great casualties trying to destroy Germany's captured oil refineries in Romania. Narrator Patrick Lawlor's excitement boils as planes catch fire and injured men parachute into Yugoslavia to escape their falling coffins. Lawlor's seeming involvement in the airmen's salvation by simple country people makes the true story delightful to hear. For the Germans and Serbians, Lawlor takes on a generic foreign accent--good enough for listeners to appreciate the non-Americans speaking. His diction is crisp and clear, even for the many foreign words and names. Since the story is little known and simply told, anyone looking for a good audiobook with lots of action and information will find this worthwhile.
