Thirty-two American poets read works published between the mid-1940s and 1969. Katherine Kellgren gives a short, polished introduction to the work of each poet, highlighting accomplishments and, in the case of the living poets, bringing us up to date. There are flashes of brilliance when a poet reads with vigor and emotional expression. What a privilege to hear Allen Ginsberg and Geraldine Brooks as they speak to live audiences! The overall tone of the set is somewhat melancholy, perhaps due to the stately pace of too many cultured voices reading in a studio setting. The quality of the sound is excellent, with very few dropped words. A table of contents in booklet form provides the title of each poem, as well as its track and copyright information.
