The atmosphere is truly Victorian, genteel and redolent of rustling silk and elaborate picnics despite alien circumstances. The story, for all its plot, is not a fast-paced one, and Dover does not rush. She reads Kate’s part well. When open emotion is called for, she shows herself very able.
