Mystery & Suspense • 6 hrs. • Abridged • © 1998

This recent entry in Griffin's series of Marine Corps novels is set primarily in China--a band of American servicemen and dependents is on the run from the Japanese in the Gobi Desert, and the protagonists are out to rescue them. The love interest, a stateless Russian beauty, makes her way from Singapore to the Gobi with her young child. Stephen Lang reads with an unspectacular, flat, middle-American accent, distinguishing characters through pitch and accent. He is effective with Russian and Chinese accents, for example. There is mild musical punctuation here and there, particularly for romantic scenes. D.R.W. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/JUL 00]
