A DEAD MAN IN ATHENS

It's the eve of WWI, and Scotland Yard has been called to Athens because the former sultan of Turkey, who is in exile, is seemingly in danger. His cat has been poisoned, and it looks like the sultan himself may be next, one more incident in the long history of conflict between the Greeks and the Turks. Special Investigator Sandor Seymour arrives in the dusty streets to find spies and wives and plots of every sort. Clive Mantle comfortably deals with all the accents--from those of the Foreign Office chappies to those of the harem coquettes. He appears to enjoy the ridiculous as well as the intense, and reads with a smooth engagement that is at the same time discreet and entertaining.
