How David Case can read this book without breaking into peals of laughter is a wonder. The listener reacts with guffaws and utter disbelief at such hilarious, improbable situations. Satirist Sharpe's second South African novel doesn't just poke fun at whites and blacks, it deftly punctures them, releasing and revealing all their pretenses. David Case's narrative voice is somewhat effete, with a bit of a lisp, a British satirical voice. He presents the variety of voices well, with good differentiation of characters. The narration is well-paced, slowing enough for narrative passages to be understood and distinguishes clearly between dialogue and thought. Biting satire and great comedy!
