This is a pleasurable listen for lovers of medieval mysteries. This second collaboration by five of Britain's best-known historical mystery writers follows a cursed sword from the Norman invasion in 1066 to Poitiers, France, in 1356. In between, it brings mixed luck to knights and knaves, heroes and murderers. Paul Matthews, who expertly narrates the Crowner John series by Bernard Knight, does a credible job with a host of medieval characters. He's particularly adept at creating personality from changes of inflection and hints of accent. The only quibble is the sometimes apparent remixing. All in all, though, this is a wonderfully read, fun listen. A.C.S. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/ MAY 08]
