THE EVERYTHING MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. BOOK The Struggle, the Tragedy, the Dream

by | Read by Dwain J. Kyles

Biography & Memoir • 9 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2008

This book covers the life, death, and contributions of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., and attempts to place them within the context of African-American history and U.S. history in general. It draws on traditional sources but also utilizes heretofore unreleased FBI documents. By and large, the book offers a good single-volume introduction to the Civil Rights Movement leader. The narration is crisp and well paced. Dwain Kyles lets his voice rise and fall to emphasize points without seeming phony. The publishers wisely chose to include a tape of King himself delivering the closing portion of his "I Have a Dream" speech. However, the editors should have chosen to eliminate the production's subtitles. They break the flow of the narration. A detailed track-by-track guide is an excellent index.
