TILLY AND THE BADGERS

Lingard presents another charming story about Tilly and her Scottish village. Tilly and William are best friends and complete opposites. Tilly is chatty, warm, and quick to judge while William is quiet and more deliberate. When they learn that local people are badger baiting, setting badgers against dogs to fight for sport, they’re outraged. Narrator Jane MacFarlane expertly presents the children's contrasts and uses the perfect voice to convey suspense. At first, they suspect a new family that is somewhat odd, but they soon learn they're incorrect. The story perfectly captures various reactions to animal cruelty as Tilly and William close in on the culprits and solve the baffling mystery.
