Mystery & Suspense • 11.25 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2007

A violent, seemingly senseless murder, a conspiracy of silence, and a hunt for buried treasure combine to make an intricate puzzle in this latest Aurelio Zen mystery. Zen is an Italian police detective, and in this story he is assigned to the toe of Italy's boot. It’s a routine assignment that turns out to be anything but routine. Michael Tudor Barnes is a capable reader, but he gives no Italian flavor to the reading. Even phrases in Italian sound forced and unnatural. He tries to give characters distinct voices, but with their various accents they come out sounding like people from a Jack Higgins thriller based in London.
