IWO JIMA

One of the most respected popular histories of WWII, this book describes the bloody battle of Iwo Jima from both perspectives, American and Japanese. Interwoven throughout the narrative are excerpts from letters and diaries, which bring a poignant immediacy to the many human stories and tragedies. The timbre of reader Addison's voice and his solid American accent bring actor John Wayne immediately to mind. Given the events described in this book, Addison was an effective choice.
