Rampersad presents a distinguished biography of baseball hero and color-barrier pioneer Jackie Robinson. Robinson's life, his views and his contribution to American history are clearly and insightfully presented. The lengthy work can be enjoyed in the audio format through the solid reading by Michael Prichard. In a resonant, authoritative voice, Prichard delivers a clear, efficient rendition. Rampersad's writing and nuance are so good, one longs for a little more subtlety. Nevertheless, Prichard's presentation style is best appreciated in this type of nonfiction.
