JEEVES TAKES CHARGE

Earphones Award Winner

by | Read by Edward Duke

Fiction • 1 hr. • Dramatization • © 1987

Duke is a hilarious master of the upper-crust British voice; his Bertie Wooster is vapid, nervous, high-pitched and irresistible. The actor handles Wodehouse's overbearing women and bratty children with equal, full-voiced ease. Bertie's uncle quavers; a 12-year-old young lady says "Thanks awfully"; the imperious school mistress says, "I'll see to it," and there is no doubt that she will; Jeeves says "Very .....good.....sir," the pauses full of disapproval; Bertie calls it "rummy." The two stories here are adapted from a one-man stage show which Duke performed world-wide. The only disappointment is the feeble cardboard packaging. Otherwise: first class all the way. D.W.
