JOSEPHINE

by | Read by James Saxon

Young Adult • 4.3 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1989

St. Chauvin's is a weird school. Its faculty includes a mad scientist and a deranged English professor who periodically tries to slash his students with swords. The campus is also haunted by the legendary Dorset Wolf. This is a complex tale, made nearly inscrutable by the narration. Saxon's voice is clear, but he provides little vocal characterization to distinguish the main characters. His British accent, combined with 1930's slang, makes this presentation suitable for the dedicated Anglophile. Most children may not appreciate Lillington's humor, but adults and some sophisticated adolescent listeners may enjoy this audio trip to a bizarre boarding school in pre-War England.
