Not for the squeamish! The publisher calls this "a nail-biter" with total justification. In this first novel, an insidious killer takes hostage an aging widow with such depressing future prospects that she willingly joins him in his crimes. Though she sounds at times as if fighting a cold, Betty Buckley reads well enough, but she doesn't have the chops to sustain the book's relentless tension.
