The residents of Instep hold tightly to the myth of the fierce Megrimum, who lives high atop Knee Knock Rise, as legend tells. When young Egan visits his aunt and uncle to attend the annual Instep Fair, he sets out to locate the source of the myth and disprove the existence of the creature. Suzanne Toren's dramatic delivery meets the requirements of this highly descriptive and poetic text. Her excellent use of pause, emphasis and unobtrusive vocal differentiation lend a sense of immediacy to strange and mysterious events. An essential purchase. T.B.
