FRONTIER GENTLEMAN

This program includes the first 16 episodes of this 1958 radio drama about a correspondent for the LONDON TIMES who files stories from the American West of the 1870s. John Dehner's strong voice conveys intelligence, authority, and sensitivity, though his accent is more clipped American than British. The supporting cast is able and experienced. Sound, sound effects, and music—all original—are good. Plots can become repetitive and the repertory cast's voices overly familiar, so it's best to space out the episodes. The stories are solid, often dealing with serious emotions and occasionally generating dramatic power. A sure pick for fans of old-time radio or Westerns.
