BATMAN The Stone King

by | Read by Richard Rohan and a Full Cast

Science Fiction/ Audio Theater • 6 hrs. • Audio Program • © 2008

Audio drama is a wonderful medium for superhero tales, as we know from old-time radio days when the feats of Superman and the Green Lantern ruled the airwaves. Sadly, this Batman story doesn't live up to these predecessors. The story line involves a force of evil unleashed from an ancient pyramid which confront the the titanic superheroes of the Justice League, creating the need for Batman to rescue them. The production’s major flaw is a lack of commitment to either the dramatized or the audiobook form. Uneven dialogue is lumped into excessive stretches of narration, with sound effects that often sound after the narrator's aural cue. Comic-book fanatics will enjoy an exciting portrayal of their favorite characters, but listeners who want a story that breaks the bounds of its genre should look elsewhere.
