ASHES TO ASHES

Fans of TV's "Homicide" will recognize Leo's hard-bitten detective voice powering this grisly tale of a serial killer known as "the Cremator." The intensity of her approach matches that of the Minneapolis manhunt that engulfs police, politicians, a wealthy industrialist, an FBI profiler and Kate, a victim's rights advocate. Kate's been asked to counsel a young runaway who may have witnessed the most recent murder. Leo adopts a more tender tone for Kate and her client, then switches to a deranged snarl for the eventually unmasked killer. A few romantic moments between Kate and the profiler break up the otherwise turbulent goings on. The faint of heart should beware, but thriller devotees will like this commendable performance.
