Superstition, colonial tyranny, cruelty and courage blend in a short coming-of-age story read with humor and compassion. Donnelly's fine vocal pitch and pacing easily differentiate the players and lend immediacy to the action, urging the listener to the story's conclusion. This is not only a rewarding period piece, but also a satisfying story of a misunderstood and endangered creature.
