LEE'S LIEUTENANTS: A STUDY IN COMMAND

by | Read by Jonathan Reese

History • 27 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1942

At the outset of the Civil War the South had no coherent military structure. Freeman traces the development of Southern military leadership in rough chronological order, including both minor and well known, successful and disastrous officers. Overall the work adapts well to audio format and narrator Reese's pacing keeps the long text interesting. The only deterrant to enjoyable listening is the difficulty of following battle descriptions without maps and a few mispronunciations. One can understand the likelihood of mispronouncing local placenames, but surely someone should have checked the pronunciation of "John Mosby" of Mosby's Raiders.
