Hegarty also writes under her real name, Frances Fyfield. Isabel Burley returns to her remote home to tend to her once beautiful but distant mother, Serena, who's suffering from dementia. Their love-hate relationship creates a sense of foreboding and simmering resentment, which is apparent to all who fall into the mother's clutches or try to help the tragic Isabel. Langford's theater experience is evident as she expresses the misery of everyone touched by Alzheimer's; the listener overhears both Serena's vulgar insanity and Isabel's need to constantly cajole her mother.
