LITTLE BOY BLUE

Earphones Award Winner

by | Read by Len Cariou

Mystery & Suspense • 3 hrs. • Abridged • © 1997

The star of this first-class production is the city of New York. Detectives Anthony Ryan and his partner, Joe Gregory, investigate a murder/robbery at JFK Airport. The pair moves around these mean streets like they own them. As the investigation takes them from the Upper East Side to the Village, up to Harlem, and over to Queens--Len Cariou's narration (and Stan Harrison's evocative transitional music) makes the concrete landscape come alive. Cariou excels at capturing metropolitan diversity, particularly the New York accent of Gregory (who calls his partner "pally") and the Irish accent of Inspector Declan O'Prey. Suspicion touches on everybody from the Mob to a Manhattan street gang to the IRA, and the Dee/Cariou combo keeps listeners on their toes. As top cop O'Prey says in the thickest Irish accent this side of Dublin--"Kudos, gentlemen, kudos." E.K.D. Winner of AUDIOFILE Earphones Award ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN 97]
