A change in narrator several titles into a series can be refreshing—or disappointing. In the fourth book of the House of Night series, the switch from the superb Edwina Wren to Jenna Lamia is a betrayal. Zoey Redbird is coming into her full power as a vampire goddess, ready to challenge the evil headmistress of her vampire boarding school while handling several personal issues, including relationship issues and problems with the undead. Lamia is a poor choice for this audio. Her narrative voice sounds too young, making Zoey sound more like a tween than a confident young woman who is trying to stop a megalomaniacal high priestess and her zombie army hell-bent on eradicating humans. No sexy, seductive voice to suck listeners in here. M.M.O. © AudioFile 2009, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2009]
