Love Story Classics has a single focus in selecting material--each story must include the theme of love. Karen Wilkie started the New York-based publishing company in 1992 and enlisted narrator J.P. Linton to begin recording collections of short stories and novellas with the central thread of love. Linton, who has recorded audiobooks for the Library of Congress for more than twenty-five years, performs in each collection. Love Story Classics began with two volumes of literary selections by Kate Chopin, Edith Wharton, Virginia Woolf and O. Henry, among others. Careful selection of stories that lend themselves particularly well to listening is a consistent hallmark of the anthologies. A clear theme and manageable length also contribute to their popularity.
