LYING IN WAIT

by | Read by Gene Engene

Mystery & Suspense • 11 hrs. • Unabridged • ©

The twelfth entry in the J.P. Beaumont series offers readers an incongruous mixture of reunited sweethearts, Nazi hunters, illegal immigrants, the Internet and a series of horrendous murders. Beau also gets a new partner, a single mother who capably juggles the demanding schedule of a homicide detective while she less capably raises her teenage son. Fans will find Beau's detecting skills a bit off the mark as he misses obvious clues. Engene's narration, although clipped and stiff, is acceptable when he is portraying Beaumont. Less successful are his accents for other characters, particularly the high-pitched, whiny vocalization for female characters. Accents are not consistently maintained. Though Jance is popular, this may not be the best in the series. J.L. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG 95]
