This is one of those fascinating books that gives the lay reader some understanding of an intense occupation which tends to set the practitioner apart from ordinary society, without being patronizing or overly technical. The storytelling invites reading aloud, and Richard Poe is well-matched to the material. His clear and pleasant voice sounds deeply committed but not sentimental.
