A likable spiritual leader with Christian roots expands upon the steps to enlightenment that he’s offered previously. He says that if we practice being forward-thinking and responsible, we can use God’s love to evolve into our true selves and connect with what the universe wants to give us. He’s articulate in explaining how we avoid happiness through negativity, intellectual pretensions, lack of faith, and subconscious fear of our own power. The pastor’s reading at times sounds wordy, even intellectualized. This and the dramatic flourishes Beckwith forces into his otherwise gentle reading seem at odds with his authentic vibe and altruistic message. The R&B-influenced background music played during his affirmations also doesn’t fit. But as the program’s immense spiritual depth and practical value become obvious, all of these become non-issues.
