MEXICO

by | Read by Tony Roberts

Fiction • 4 hrs. • Abridged • © 1992

With remarkable skill author James Michener brings to life 1,500 years of Mexican history through the character of an American journalist who is sent south of the border. The text, like the history of this great nation, is full of blood and gore. Unfortunately, reader Tony Roberts is not the right voice to dramatize this work. As always, Michener's descriptions are incredibly detailed, but the reader gives everything equal weight. His voice is simply too smooth, and it often sounds as if he's reading commercial copy. It's hard to believe this is the voice of a journalist who goes to Mexico to gain insight into his Latin heritage. G.A.D. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN 93]
