Who knew that the man who owns the most powerful media empire in the world would be so normal and so boring? Media reporter and narrator Michael Wolff takes us inside the secret world of Rupert Murdoch, and, while the story of his ever-expanding conglomerate is fascinating, the fact that the man himself is rather ordinary is disappointing. Murdoch comes off as less of a master manipulator and more of an overly ambitious grandfather who is clutching at immortality. Further, Wolff's slow and deliberate narration can drag at times. Still, THE MAN WHO OWNS THE NEWS pulls back the curtain on the media-shy Murdoch with precision and aplomb. R.O. © AudioFile 2009, Portland, Maine [Published: FEBRUARY 2009]
