THE LOST QUILTER

Christina Moore continues her narration of the Elm Creek Farm series, giving exceptional clarity and realism to this installment’s protagonist, escaped slave Joanna North. Moore's light, clear voice deepens convincingly to portray the African-American women and men in the story, reflecting both their lack of formal education and compelling intelligence. In several instances, she shifts effortlessly to depict a spoiled Southern belle, leaving no doubt as to character. Shifting to the present, Moore delivers a comfortable characterization of Sylvia Compson, the current mistress of the manor, portraying her as a serene senior who is intrigued and outraged when she finds a cache of letters written by Joanna and learns of her compelling story.
