Richard Hammond is one of the presenters on the BBC car show TOP GEAR, and he's crafted an utterly charming memoir. The show is known for outlandish stunts, such as driving to the North Pole. Hammond makes that trip by dogsled rather than car, and his observations put listeners right there in the frozen tent with him (and make them grateful for their own warm beds). Equally compelling is his story of floods in the English countryside, of running miles and miles home in the dark, of borrowing an old boat to mount a rescue of a couple of friends stranded in their house. Hammond has great timing and a friendly, intimate reading style, ensuring that every joke is funny and that listeners are rapt. J.M.D. © AudioFile 2009, Portland, Maine [Published: JUNE 2009]
