MURDER UNDER THE PALMS

Charlotte Graham is as elderly and clever at detection as Miss Marple. But she also has the glamour and sophistication of Lauren Bacall. In this mystery she solves two murders linked to the sabotage of a luxury ocean liner being outfitted as a troop ship during WWII. While the author wants us to see her sleuth as still alluring as well as brilliant, Susan O’Malley mostly portrays her with an old lady's voice. The descriptions of Palm Beach's opulent lifestyle and an engaging plot will keep audiobook lovers listening despite a vocal style that is less than appealing.
