Like a Haydn quartet, this book is a fresh and clever exploration of a classic form: an English house-party mystery. Williamson has a light, clear, classically British voice ideally suited to the narrative of the text. Her character voices are satisfactory. Few readers could speak as slowly as she does without sounding dull or overly deliberate. She seems to be inviting the listener to savor the story. This is appropriate for a well-written book, which is largely an exercise in style. She sounds . . . stylish. Listeners who like the style will find this a treat.
