MY OLD MAN AND THE SEA

David Hays and his son, Daniel, trade off telling the story of their 317 day trip around Cape Horn in a 25-foot sailboat. Jeff Woodman's chipper, slightly nerdy portrayal of 23-year-old Daniel is at first jarring compared to George Guidall's resonant, philosophical performance as the 55-year-old David. But as the tale unfolds, their dissimilar presentations begin to match the characters, and soon we feel right there on board, alternately entertained, educated, terrified, relaxed and, above all, impressed--as much by the completion of this 17,000-mile trip as by the extraordinary relationship between father and son.
