Long believed lost, "The Living Doll" and "The Disappearing Scientists" are two of 213 Holmes mysteries broadcast on radio in the 1940's. It is a distinct pleasure to hear the familiar voices of Rathbone as Homes and Bruce as Dr. Watson; they flub their lines occasionally, but it doesn't matter. The stories themselves are not by Conan Doyle; they tend toward contrivance and obviousness. The narrator has an irritantingly callow, fast-talking voice typical of the movies of the day; including commercials as originally broadcast, nothing excised. The audio quality is very good despite an occasional "pop" from the original recording. The price is right, and the tape will be very popular. D.W. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: NOV 92]
