NIGHTFALL The Blood Countess

Bill Howell, one of Canada’s best radio dramatists, produced the Nightfall series shortly after entering the CBC’s radio drama department in the early ‘80’s. Based on the true story of a sadistic noblewoman, The Blood Countess typifies the program’s sound--excellent actors chewing the scenery in turgid scripts full of horror and devoid of both subtlety and taste. Even so, the quality of writing and production far outshines that of the contemporaneous CBS Mystery Theater, which is currently being rebroadcast nationwide.
