October's Ghost is a marvelous thriller, and George Guidall gives his usual excellent reading. Although the story is full of technical details, the smoothness with which they are included doesn't interfere with the action. There is little change of voice between male and female characters. That works, however, since all are professionals doing very complex jobs regardless of their sex, and Pearson moves us between members of the CIA, NSA, FBI and the president's offices of both Russia and the United States with authority. The battle scenes in Cuba are detailed and authentic, and October's Ghost is a compelling novel from start to finish. D.M.W. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 96]
