Joe Rizzo, nearing retirement from the NYPD, is mentoring a new partner, Mike McQueen, a newly assigned detective. As they work on one case after another, Mike takes Joe's advice to heart: "There is no right, there is no wrong, there just is." Manfredo's police procedural, his first novel, crackles with authentic dialogue and suspense. Bobby Cannavale is a perfect match as he delivers a performance laced with spot-on Brooklyn and Italian accents, as well as actual Italian. His character voices stand out, especially that of Joe Rizzo. Cannavale’s ability to capture Joe's deep, gravelly voice, the voice of a heavy smoker, along with his pronounced Brooklyn accent, is truly something to marvel at. S.S.R.
