THE ORIGINAL FREDDIE ACKERMAN

by | Read by John McDonough

Children Ages 10+ • 5.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1992

Humor, intrigue, mystery and romance await 12-year-old Trevor (Freddie) when he's shipped off to Blue Isle, Maine, to stay with his great aunts during his twelfth summer. McDonough's gravelly voice lends itself particularly well to a zestful interpretation of the eccentric great aunts, Lou and Aunt Cal. Louisa's refined voice is generous and playful while Cal's booming voice is extravagantly dramatic. The exceptionally theatrical delivery he gives to Freddie's daydreams is a suitable counterpoint to the direct reading he gives to Trevor's daily life and conversation. There's a bit of something for everyone here, but boys in the middle grades, in particular, will enjoy this audiobook. T.B. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 97]
