Elizabeth and Tara Starr are totally different. And best friends. So, when Tara Starr's family moves to another town, the girls begin the correspondence that is this warm and wacky coming-of-age novel. This epistolary novel is carried off with zest by its two authors. Each captures her letter writer: Danzinger, with her New York accent, is the unconventional yet responsible Tara Star. Martin, with a higher voice, is the reserved, usually sensible, Elizabeth. Both women convincingly convey the emotional lives of these preteens.
