Whether you’re in your armchair or on foot--you have map in hand, you are about to set forth on one of the four tours herein: St. Julien le Pauvre, La Huchette, St. Germain des Prés, and Place des Vosges. The tours include a stylish mix of literary trivia, history, modern watering holes, and the occasional shop worth listeners’ attention. “Guide” Gates McFadden is a little lacking in Gallic charm, seeming more to be the actress she is. But directions are clear and comments from the authors break up the narration to good effect. The tours of are concise and interesting and are accompanied by a reference map.
