PASSING ON

A brother and two sisters (in their 40's and 50's) gather to commemorate their domineering mother's death. As they sort through her belongings, they make some startling and shattering discoveries about her and what she has done to their lives. Mitchell masterfully profiles each character (including the deceased who dictates even from the grave) via dialogue and thought. The numerous interior monologues are superbly rendered. Because the story is very intimate, the reader's interpretation makes this work a truly moving listening experience. Passing On is so wonderful as an audiobook that the listener can't help but wonder if it is as memorable to read. S.G.B.
