Mystery & Suspense • 9 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2009

Dean Koontz continues to demonstrate his love of all creatures great and small, this time by creating some entirely new ones. A woodsman named Grady Adams discovers a pair of stunning creatures living near his home in the Colorado mountains, and his newfound interest grabs the attention of the United States government. Choosing to narrate in a voice surely reserved for a character named "Grady," Jeffrey Cummings delves a little too deeply into his colorful vocal palette and delivers a slightly clichéd and overly dramatic reading. At times, Cummings's tone is that of a stubborn loner, someone wholly content with the solitary life. However, in his portrayal the character experiences sudden dramatic shifts in personality, which seem entirely out of place. L.B. © AudioFile 2010, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2010]
