Moving his life from England to France, acquiring custody of his young son, and dealing with life in another language require an intense period of adjustment. This novel offers a myriad of characters to whom Andrew Sachs gives vibrancy and personality. His French is delightful, his English perfectly enunciated; he's also a gentle reader who never divulges the next twist of plot. His narration enhances the written word so well that the listener longs to live in this village in southern France and melt into the lives of its inhabitants. J.P.
