THE PHANTOM FOOTBALLER & FAIR PLAY OR FOUL?

by | Read by Richard Mitchley

Children Ages 8+ • 2.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1998

These two short stories take a humorous glimpse at the Legg family's love of football (soccer). The children find an old football in the attic and are dazzled when the ghost of their long dead Uncle Archie appears. He proceeds to coach his family's team to victory, while promoting fair play and sportsmanship. Both stories delightfully present Uncle Archie's quaint ideas with his young relatives' modern views (including the belief that girls should be allowed to play this gentleman's game). Mitchley expertly recreates the elderly voice and diction of the ghost and the squeaky young voices of the team. A wonderful look at gamesmanship and a bygone era.
