The ghost of a disastrous train derailment. A vengeful court jester. And three wishes gone horribly wrong. Narrator Doug Bradley, who is best known as the infamous Pinhead in the Hellraiser film series, leads the listener on an affectionate survey of the horror genre's nineteenth-century literary roots. Bradley narrates these stories with perfect pace and clarity. He’s at ease handling the rich vocabulary and complex sentences of the well-known pieces such as Poe's "Tell-Tale Heart" and Stevenson's "The Body Snatcher." The twinkle of devilish delight one hears in Bradley's voice lifts these readings above the norm. In his introductions Bradley reveals that many of these stories were childhood favorites. That adds a lot to the performance. B.P. © AudioFile 2010, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2010]
