THE LANGUAGE OF LIFE DNA and the Revolution in Personalized Medicine

by | Read by Gregory Itzin

Contemporary Culture • 10.75 • Unabridged • © 2010

In THE LANGUAGE OF GOD, scientist/writer Francis S. Collins explored what the sequencing of the human genome means for people of faith. In a sense, it’s a layman's guide to DNA research and its spiritual implications. In his latest book, THE LANGUAGE OF LIFE, he offers a layman's guide to the impact of DNA research and testing on individual medical decisions. While the book is aimed at general readers and not scientists, listeners should be aware that it remains highly technical, albeit delivered in an understandable form. Don't try to listen to too much of this book at a sitting. Let the material sink in before proceeding. Gregory Itzin is solid as the narrator, but his tone tends toward bombast a little too often. Also, continual references to endnotes and illustrations in the enhanced portion at the end of the audio are distracting and show the weakness of trying to include visual images in a strictly audio format.
